What We Do
Sessions help develop the knowledge, skills, understanding, attitudes and confidence of participants in a holistic model of sexual health.
How We Do It
We create a safe environment where boundaries and working agreements or ground-rules are established and explicit. Our sessions include participatory and experiential methods to allow for opportunities for discussions and exploration of attitudes. Training is offered in a non-judgemental, respectful and sensitive way using appropriate language. We use a mix of content, method and training styles to ensure the most effective learning. All our resources, materials and exercises are up-to-date and reflect the values and principles of Brook.
Workshops
About Brook This session aims to inform participants about Brook services and other young people services available in the borough. We discuss confidentiality as an important factor thus enabling participants to feel more able to use young person centred services.
Male/Female Physical Development This session deals with the sensitive and intimate issues around puberty. We provide a clear and factual session. Both male and female puberty is discussed so the group gets a clearer understanding of the opposite sex too.
Rights and Responsibilities This session enables young people to come to believe and understand their rights and responsibilities with regard to their sexual health (contraception/services/saying ‘No’) and also on a broader aspect. As a group they claim their rights for themselves and explore ways to negotiate them with others.
S.T.Is This session aims to identify what S.T.Is are and how they are transmitted. It also aims to challenge myths about sex and enable participants to recognise the physical risks in sexual behaviour.
Drugs and Alcohol & Sexual Health This session increases awareness of both the positive and negative influence of alcohol on the development of personal and sexual relationships. We discuss and explore ways that young people can develop decision making skills to keep them safe.
Assertive Communication Within this session we enable participants to assert themselves in a clear, direct and responsible manner. They will be able to assert their own rights in a way that is equal to and respectful of others.
Attitudes and Values This session introduces young people to a range of topics such as sexuality, abortion and condom use. It enables young people to explore, the beliefs they hold and gives them a safe environment in which to discuss such topics. It also enables them to have a better understanding of the values of others.
